Replace an old deck with a low-maintenance deck that provides shelter while maintaining forest views and natural light inside.
The existing pressure treated deck was not providing any useful function for this family and required too much maintenance!
This unique home called for an outdoor living space that was just as unique to complement its simplicity.
Our 3D landscape design for this home was able to showcase each destination zone so the homeowners could get a real sense for how the whole plan would flow and function in harmony.
The homeowners loved this gas-burning firepit so much in the design phase, we couldn’t wait until they were able to sit around the real deal!
With the old pressure treated deck removed, the new deck framing started right away!
The new low maintenance composite decking was the perfect material for this family who didn’t want to sand and stain anymore!
The lean-to roof was added to provide much needed respite from the mid-day sun.
It was very important to incorporate skylights in this roof system to allow the natural light to filter back into the house!
This built-in stone planter adds beautiful pops of color during the warmer months!
We designed and installed a custom curve to this deck to give the space much appreciated visual interest.
This Phantom Screen system protects the family from mosquitos all day long but can also recess into the roof on demand!
This gas firepit creates the perfect place to kick back and relax after a long day.
The built-in bench seating saves space within the deck plan and also invites family and friends to spend time together around the fire.
Making every inch count, we incorporated an under-deck storage space for this family to hide the lawn mower and bicycles when not in use. A clutter-free yard is a happy yard!
What a fun project! We removed a plain, traditional wooden deck and replaced it with an extraordinary state-of-the-art, low maintenance outdoor space!
We designed this deck for maximum efficiency with an open space feeling. The homeowners wanted an open relaxed space that would preserve the view to the forest and a covered porch that would not cut off the natural light from the patio. So we designed the structure with engineered beams to minimize the number of support posts needed, and added skylights to let more light in. We also moved the engineered beam up into the roof structure to minimize its presence.
This homeowner didn’t want to be food for the mosquitoes so not only did we add screening — we added remote controlled retractable Phantom Screens around the structure. The screens are hidden up in the roof when not in use. We also added much needed storage space under the deck.
I love to use stone as a great “grounding” element. Not only did we add a stone planter, to add an element of greenery, but we also added a stone fire pit, which runs on remote-controlled gas. We then built in benches to create a relaxing space where friends and family will love to gather.
"He listened to what we wanted, but even more importantly, he asked thoughtful questions to gain insight into how we would use the space. We are looking forward to working with MasterPLAN on all our future outdoor projects!"
“MasterPLAN Landscaping’s 3-D design capability offered us the ability to see how our new deck would look and function before we committed to the design. This unique service enabled us to visualize how we could build our dream outdoor space in stages, with each stage ending in a completed feature, so as to never leave the impression that the project was not finished.
This rendering capability is what drew us in to work with MasterPLAN, but it was Josh’s professionalism and passion that has made us lifelong customers. He listened to what we wanted, but even more importantly, he asked thoughtful questions to gain insight into how we would use the space.
This enabled him to make suggestions we had never considered and come up with a design that was truly optimal for our needs. The result is a truly fabulous deck and we cannot thank you enough! We are looking forward to working with MasterPLAN on all our future outdoor projects!”
